Hydroforming offers surprising advantages for those using medium- and large-sized stamped sheet metal components, especially when working with thin-gauge stainless steel.
This technology significantly increases the mechanical stability and rigidity of the formed sheet, thanks to the widespread work hardening of the raw material. As a result, the component remains flat and is almost entirely free from the springback effect typical of traditional stamping. Additionally, the surface finish is noticeably superior and aesthetically appealing after forming.
A prime example is a leading manufacturer of refrigeration systems who turned to Inoxveneta for the production of a stamped connecting panel between two refrigerated counters. The project posed several challenges: a length of nearly 2 meters, a complex and asymmetrical shape, and a depth of 10 cm. The final component also had to ensure easy installation (without any springback), offer an excellent surface finish, and meet a relatively low tooling investment budget.
Within just a few weeks, thanks to Inoxveneta’s support in co-designing the component, the hydroforming die and the first prototypes were completed — fully meeting the project’s requirements and at a highly competitive cost. The panel has since gone into regular production with full customer satisfaction. In 2014, a new version of the hydroformed panel was commissioned to complement the first model.
